Why Mothers?

Did Mother know best?
Or were her words overlooked because she was just a woman?
Find out whether there were pearls of wisdom in her everyday remarks.
Women’s relationships with their mothers are more fractured than ever before. The mother-daughter dialectic, so crucial in forming a young woman’s identity, has been deeply affected by pendulum swings between high feminism and its backlash. In addition, popular culture in the 21st century offers seemingly limitless opportunities for women while focusing on images of vapid, female celebrity. Yet the trail of self-discovery through the territory of mother-daughter relationships is a rich and rewarding path, and when captured in memoir, can provide a glimpse of the road ahead.
Surprisingly, the profound experiences between daughter and mother remain mostly unrecorded, even though this bond is a woman’s primary relationship, at the core of her health and well-being. Giving voice to the complexities of mother-daughter relationships will speak common truths and make meaning of discord.
Wisdom Has a Voice: Daughters Remember Mothers begins a written tradition among women. This memoir anthology serves to reveal the hidden and important legacies of our mothers. With diverse writers from a variety of backgrounds, some well known, we will explore the fundamental events in mother-daughter relationships and how these shaped our lives.

I’m so looking forward to the upcoming Wisdom Workshop this April 24th. Close to Mother’s Day, this workshop can serve to honor and record the wisdom of our mothers.
Kate, thank you for posting that photo of the interesting women at last Saturday’s Wisdom workshop. Their faces reveal the radiance of their hearts, minds, spirits, as well as their inspiring stories. It was a joy to co-lead the workshop for this exceptional group of writers. Looking forward to our next interaction.
